How about a project for your small group?

 

Last year we had 317 newborns delivered at Soddo Christian Hospital.  We would love to give each mother and newborn a gift.

 

 

The pattern is listed below  you can mail the caps to our Foundation address and we will make sure they arrive safely at Soddo Christian Hospital.

Size of needle:         Size 3

Any weight of yarn may be used that works on Size 3 needles. Baby yarn any color. The Ethiopian flag colors are the color of our Logo. Primary colors Red, Yellow and Green.  If making a cap in Red, Yellow and Green:  then 11 rows of red, attach yellow and knit for 1 and 1/2 inches, then attach green for 1 and 1/2 inches and then start the decrease.

Cast on 80 stitches

Knit 2 Purl 2                          11 rows

Knit 1 row –Purl 1 row            3 inches

Start decrease                       Knit 8 stitches

Then knit stitches 7 & 8 together

Bind-off –insert needle tip into 7th loop and

Over 8th stitch. Continue 8 stitches until end of row.

Purl back to other side

Then   Knit 7 stitches

Knit 7 stitches and bind off 6th and 7th stitches

Continue 7 stitches and bind-off until end of row.

Purl back to other side

Repeat decreasing until 10 stitches remain on needle.

Purl back to other side

With sewing needle run a piece of yarn

through those 10 stitches.

Sew seams together and finish off as needed.

 

A pom-pom may be attached to top.
