Out Patient Department (OPD)

The OPD is the first place that patients encounter the staff when coming to Soddo Christian Hospital. The goal is to establish an environment where patients and relatives will be treated with respect, a good quality diagnosis is made, emergencies are immediately addressed at any time, and adequate treatment or referral is given within the least amount of time, i.e. “a smooth flow” 24 hours a day. For most visitors, it is the place where they hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Patients: In the first 6 months of 2009, 6.176 patients were seen in the OPD. In 2008 11.374 patients were seen.

Staff: In order to accommodate these patients the OPD consists currently of a team of 32 members: , 6 nurses, 6 general practitioners, (including 1 head OPD and 1 assistant medical director), 4 laboratory staff, and  3 x-ray personnel, 7 administrative employees, 1 dental nurse and 1 assistant, 1 guard to organise the crowd when it is busy, and 3 cleaners

Spiritually: The staff participate in a small Bible study group once weekly and the general chapel on Thursdays. The physicians ‘hand over’ every morning at 8.30 am with a Daily diary devotion, Bible reading and prayer. The Jesus film is shown every day in the OPD and there are free “Who is Jesus” tracts available for the patients. The pastors visit the OPD. There is a noticeable change within the staff and patients when they hear about Christ.
