In these five-year, fully accredited programs, Western surgeons train African physicians to increase Africa\u2019s surgical capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Soddo currently trains up to 22 residents at a time, with graduates serving across Africa. Before absconding with the stolen cattle, they ruthlessly shot Tesfaye in the back of his head.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #fff;\">Over the next 36 hours, Tesfaye\u2019s panic-stricken brother carried him from one place to another desperately seeking help. They stopped at three medical clinics\u2014none of which had the surgeons or supplies to help. By the time Tesfaye arrived at <span style=\"font-weight: 600;\">Soddo Christian Hospital<\/span>, he was barely alive.<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/div><div class=\"uncode_text_column text-color-782041-color bottom-t-top animate_when_almost_visible\" data-speed=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #fff;\">Our team of surgeons quickly conferred and then gently broke the news that\u2019s hard to hear and even harder to deliver:<\/p>\n<div style=\"background: #fbb002; color: #1e2738; padding: 16px 18px; border-radius: 12px; font-style: italic; font-size: 1.05rem; line-height: 1.5; margin: 14px 0 22px;\">\u201cWe\u2019re able to operate, but we\u2019re pretty sure surgery won\u2019t help at this point. Your brother is unlikely to survive.\u201d<\/div>\n<p style=\"color: #fff;\">Upon hearing news like this, most poor families opt to take their family member home rather than undergo an unpromising operation that risks financial catastrophe for them and their community. Tesfaye\u2019s family was so severely impoverished that his brother had only one shoe. That\u2019s why his response was so surprising:<\/p>\n<div style=\"background: #fbb002; color: #1e2738; padding: 16px 18px; border-radius: 12px; font-style: italic; font-size: 1.15rem; line-height: 1.5; margin: 14px 0 22px;\">\u201cLet\u2019s take the chance. Give him the best chance you can.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>\n<\/div><div class=\"uncode_text_column text-color-782041-color bottom-t-top animate_when_almost_visible\" data-speed=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #fff;\">Our team of doctors prayed together, washed up, and quickly headed to the OR. They did what they could with the very limited supplies they had. Miraculously, Tesfaye survived the surgery.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #fff;\">Over the next few days in the ICU, Tesfaye defied every negative prediction of the medical professionals. As each day progressed, he lay in his hospital bed watching <em>The Jesus Film<\/em> and learning about the ultimate Healer from our team of chaplains who visited and prayed with him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #fff;\">A few weeks later, Tesfaye was released from the hospital.
