{"id":1724,"date":"2015-01-20T18:19:56","date_gmt":"2015-01-20T18:19:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.soddo.org\/?p=1724"},"modified":"2015-01-20T18:19:56","modified_gmt":"2015-01-20T18:19:56","slug":"sch-history-part-five","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.soddo.org\/am\/sch-history-part-five\/","title":{"rendered":"SCH History &#8211; Part Five"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 1996, the Derg regime had fallen.\u00a0 <a title=\"Dr. Harold Adolph\" href=\"https:\/\/www.soddo.org\/staff-view\/dr-harold-adolph\/\">Dr. Harold Adolph<\/a>, a former SIM missionary surgeon at the previous mission hospital in Soddo, was asked to come back and operate for a short while to spell the surgeon there.\u00a0 The former mission hospital was now run exclusively by the government.\u00a0 Dr. Adolph and <a title=\"Andrew &amp; Sok-Hui Chew\" href=\"https:\/\/www.soddo.org\/staff-view\/andrew-sok-hui-chew\/\">Dr. Andrew Chew<\/a> travelled to Soddo, and while there, Dr. Adolph sensed the Lord calling him to start a new mission hospital.\u00a0 One that would again bring the Gospel alongside physical healing in Wolaitta.<\/p>\n<p>One of Dr. Adolph\u2019s former students, Dr. Kelemu Desta, was now an established general and plastic surgeon in his own right.\u00a0 Adolph and Kelemu teamed up and began charting the course for a new hospital.\u00a0 As Dr. Adolph prayed and went forth, donors came from everywhere including the USA and Switzerland.\u00a0 The local government had twelve acres of land allocated for the hospital.\u00a0 All that remained was for 18 squatter families to be carefully relocated so construction could begin.\u00a0 That process alone took a year and a half.\u00a0 The process of getting approval for all the plans took another two years.\u00a0 A water well was drilled to a depth of 127 meters.\u00a0 Things were in motion.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, building began in June of 2002.\u00a0 Cement shortages were common, and the building seemed to go painfully slow.\u00a0 Through it all, Dr. Adolph claimed the promises of God in 1 Chronicles 28:20:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>Be strong and courageous and get to work.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be frightened by the size of the task, for the Lord my God is with you.\u00a0 He will not forsake you.\u00a0 He will see to it that everything is finished correctly.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Many people who had been helped at the previous mission hospital, now in middle age, came forward to help.\u00a0\u00a0 Even the president of the zone, realizing that Dr. Adolph had delivered him at his birth, did what he could to help the process.\u00a0 The building contractor, Yakob Gebeyehu, and the Assistant Administrator, Gebeyehu Utalo, had also both been patients of Dr. Adolph\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>On January 26, 2005, the Soddo Christian Hospital opened its doors to begin treating patients.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.soddo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/SCHBuildingsGrounds_101-Mobile.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-thumbnail wp-image-1725 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.soddo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/SCHBuildingsGrounds_101-Mobile-280x213.jpg\" alt=\"SCHBuildingsGrounds_101 (Mobile)\" width=\"280\" height=\"213\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[ois skin=&#8221;Blog Post Share&#8221;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 1996, the Derg regime had fallen.\u00a0 Dr. Harold Adolph, a former SIM missionary surgeon at the previous mission hospital [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":1725,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[72],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1724","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-general"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
