two of our CT technicians this past year\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1746\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Simret (left) with Debebe &#8211; two of our CT technicians this past year<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This week we said goodbye to an employee that has been a special addition to our staff. \u00a0 Even though Simret wasn&#8217;t with us very long, the hospital had a big impact on him, and we&#8217;d like to share the story with you.<\/p>\n<p>Simret is one of our CT technicians.\u00a0 He came to Soddo Christian Hospital about a year\u00a0ago, doing something that not many people do.\u00a0 He moved from the big city \u2013 Addis Ababa \u2013 out to the country \u2013 Soddo.\u00a0 Simret was recruited to help run our CT scanner \u2013 the newest instrument in our armamentarium to care for the people of southern Ethiopia.<\/p>\n<p>Simret grew up in a culturally religious tradition, but he admits that he didn\u2019t read the Bible, and he certainly didn\u2019t know God personally.\u00a0 As he grew into adulthood, he moved from Debra Zeit to Addis and had the beginnings of a successful career.\u00a0 Not that different from most young professionals anywhere in the world.\u00a0 Little did he know what would be in store for him when he suddenly made the decision to accept an employment offer at Soddo Christian Hospital.\u00a0 Wait, what?\u00a0 Move to Soddo?\u00a0 Well, it seemed like an interesting opportunity, so he went for it.<\/p>\n<p>Things were going well in his new job.\u00a0 And then, just a few months after joining our staff, Simret got the news no one wants to hear.\u00a0 His older brother, living in Seattle, Washington, had just been diagnosed with cancer.\u00a0\u00a0 Brain cancer.\u00a0 Dealing with these things is hard enough when the family is together.\u00a0 But in this case, Simret\u2019s unmarried brother and their sister were in Seattle, and the rest of the family here in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n<p>Simret became hopeless.\u00a0 He even began having nightmares.\u00a0 One day, he had shown up for work, but was just sitting in a chair slumped over in despair.\u00a0 One of our brightest and best employees, and also a strong Christian went over and engaged him in conversation.\u00a0 Teka, one of our pharmacists, shines with the love of God, and he wanted desperately to encourage Simret.\u00a0 He invited him to a discipleship group.\u00a0 These discipleship groups are like small group Bible studies that our staff engage in every Thursday morning.\u00a0 Simret went, and his life was forever changed.<\/p>\n<p>He began studying the Bible in small group.\u00a0 In fact, he got a Bible for the first time in his life.\u00a0 Another of our employees, Dr. Mehret, gave him a daily devotional guide.\u00a0 He started reading that too.\u00a0 And for the first time in a long time, Simret said, he had HOPE.<\/p>\n<p>Now, when asked about it, Simret says that his life is different because of Soddo Christian Hospital.\u00a0 He says that he wants everyone to know that our hospital \u201cis not like other hospitals\u201d.\u00a0 \u201cIn the big city, the hospital only wants to make money.\u00a0 But here, we care about patients, we care about the poor, and most of all, we want everyone to know Jesus,\u201d Simret said.\u00a0 Our patients\u2026 and our staff!<\/p>\n<p>Simret left this week for a different job &#8211; a new and exciting challenge that we are sure he will excel in. \u00a0We are thankful for the year you spent with us, brother!<\/p>\n<p>[ois skin=&#8221;Blog Post Share&#8221;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week we said goodbye to an employee that has been a special addition to our staff. \u00a0 Even though [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":1744,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[80,83],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1743","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-discipleship","category-national-staff"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
