is Soddo Anyway?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We get asked this question a lot, so we thought we&#8217;d show you. \u00a0Here is a map of Ethiopia:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.soddo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/map_of_ethiopia.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-639 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.soddo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/map_of_ethiopia-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"map_of_ethiopia\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, the capital city Addis Ababa is located smack in the middle of the country. \u00a0If you visit Soddo, this is where you will fly into, usually from Europe, or maybe Washington, D.C. \u00a0From the southwest edge of Addis, you head south on the Jimma Road, and right outside of Addis, turn left down the highway that takes you to Soddo. \u00a0Here&#8217;s the route:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.soddo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Capture.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-640 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.soddo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Capture-300x279.png\" alt=\"Capture\" width=\"270\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">From Addis, it&#8217;s about a 330 km, or about 205 miles to Soddo. \u00a0You pass through 2 major towns, Butajira at around 100km (you&#8217;re about one-third of the way there) and Hosanna at around 200km (now you&#8217;re on the home stretch). \u00a0The journey takes about 5 hours. \u00a0Often folks will stop for lunch or coffee &#8211; we recommend the Rediet Hotel in Butajira. \u00a0Along the way, expect to see some beautiful rolling countryside, farmland, and Ethiopia <em>chika bets<\/em>, or mud houses.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_641\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-641\" style=\"width: 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-641\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Traditional chika bet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The big towns, like Hosanna and Butajira, are full of retail stores, restaurants, and hotels. \u00a0When in the towns you will see 3-wheeled motorized tuk-tuks that are referred to as a &#8220;Bajaj&#8221; after the Indian company
